Blazers Handle MTSU 4-2 Tuesday Night

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB Softball team (11-13) handled Middle Tennessee State (9-15) with eight hits and no errors on Tuesday night at Mary Bowers Field.

UAB hosted their first midweek of the season on a sunny and 75 Tuesday night in Birmingham. The final score was 4-2.

IN THE INNINGS
UAB continues to score in the first inning as Hannah Dorsett lays down a beautiful bunt to score Bella Wiggins. Dorsett reached on a throwing error by MTSU.

Only one hit came in the second inning and that was by Middle Tennessee. The Blazers went down in order. Both teams scored a run in the third inning including another bunt RBI by Hannah Dorsett. Before that the Blue Raiders scored on a single through the right side. Back-to-back singles by Auburn Dupree and Wiggins gave UAB first and third with no outs. Dorsett stepped up and singled with a bunt to score Dupree.

UAB scored the next two runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 4-1. Another error by MTSU allowed UAB to score, but this time Dorsett reached on an error that led two UAB runs. Lindsey Smith hit a deep fly ball to right field that allowed Dorsett to score and on the throw home Wiggins was also able to score.

The Blue Raiders added one run in the sixth inning on a home run. McLendon has now given up six home runs in 54.2 innings pitched. She struck out four while allowing six hits. McLendon pitched her fifth complete game of the season and is now 5-4 on the year.

Bella Wiggins went 3-3 today with two runs scored and a stolen base.

UAB is back in action on Friday night as the Blazers face conference opponent FAU in a three-game series Friday-Sunday.
