Late Home Run Not Enough to Beat 49ers
5/2/2025 11:03:00 PM | Softball
Jenna Lord from Charlotte played her high school ball at Hewitt Trussville, which is also where Hannah Dorsett played. After almost an hour delay, 14 runs were scored in innings three through seven. Hannah Miles started us off with a single to left field, followed by a Hope Tucker single to left field. Both Miles and Tucker were left on base in the first.
Kari Shedrick hit a solo home run in the second inning. The delay happened in the top of the third inning with Britt Bourgoyne up to bat. The first run for UAB came on a Hannah Miles single through the left side. In the same inning, Charlotte put up a four spot on five hits.
UAB answered with a three run fifth inning, starting off with a Bella Wiggins single. Wiggins and Dorsett both got two hits on the day closing their gaps to career milestones. Wiggins is seven hits away from 200 career hits, while Dorsett is one hit away from 100 career hits. Miles hit a sacrifice fly to score Wiggins, for her 40th RBI this season. That makes Miles seventh in UAB history for RBIs in a single season. Tucker, Smith, and Shirah all hit RBI singles in the fourth.
Dorsett got her second hit of the night when she doubled to left center. This run tied the game at five. Charlotte took control of the game with another five runs in the sixth inning. Three extra base hits happened in the inning including two triples. The Blazers mounted a comeback in the seventh inning, started off by a Lindsey Smith single to left field. A pinch-hit single scored the first run by AJ Kramer for her seventh hit of the year. Makenzie Droddy then stepped up and hit a bomb to right field to score two more runs. Charlotte wins game one 10-8.
UAB is back in action tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. CT against Charlotte.
