UAB Volleyball Announces 2025 Schedule

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB volleyball team has released its 2025 schedule in year six with Betsy Freeburg in charge.
"We are excited about the 2025 schedule," Head Volleyball Coach Betsy Freeburg said. "The non-conference gives our young team the ability to get a variety of matches with a broad spectrum of opponents. It will challenge us as we prepare for the AAC schedule. This team has lofty AAC goals, and we're looking forward to growing together and competing every day to reach those goals."
An exhibition match at Alabama State is the only pre-season match for the Blazers before the 2025 regular season opens at the Crimson Tide Invitational at in-state opponent Alabama. The Blazers will play Jacksonville and UNC Asheville on August 29th before finishing the tournament at Alabama on August 30th.
The 2025 Blazer Invitational runs from September 5-6 and features USC Upstate, Tennessee Tech, and North Alabama. UAB then makes the first out of state trip of the year when they head to Evansville, Indiana for another tournament. Evansville and Morehead State will face UAB on September 12th, while Western Illinois will face the Blazers on the 13th.
Just 6.1 miles away from Bartow Arena will be the last tournament of the regular season at Samford. The third annual Alabama Showdown has been hosted at Auburn and at UAB last year. The Blazers will face Auburn on Thursday, September 18th followed by South Alabama (Sunday, Sept. 19) and Samford (Saturday, Sept. 20).
The Blazers host eight total conference games at home starting with a matchup against Wichita State, who hosted the American Athletic Conference tournament last year (Sept. 26). UAB plays a total of three Friday night home conference games: Wichita State (Sept. 26), Rice (Oct. 3), and Tulane (Oct. 17).
Conference play continues into October with three matches against Texas schools: at North Texas on September 28th before two home games against Rice (Oct. 3) and UTSA (Oct. 5). The Blazers travel to the Midwest for two matches against Tulsa and Wichita State in mid-October before another home weekend against Tulane and Tulsa on October 17th and 19th.
Three out of the next four games will be on the road to end the October slate with the loan home game being against FAU on October 26th. Memphis and South Florida come to town on November 5th and 7th before the regular season comes to an end on a trip to North Carolina to play ECU and Charlotte on November 14th and 16th.
The AAC tournament will be held November 21-23 in Tampa, Florida.
