UAB Draws with Samford to Close Non-Conference Play

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's soccer (3-2-4, 0-0-1) battled Samford (3-2-3) to a 0-0 draw on Sunday night at PNC Field in a defensive showdown that saw both teams create chances but fail to find the back of the net.
After a first half controlled by Samford, who outshot the Blazers 10-4, UAB responded with an energetic second half, firing 13 shots to the Bulldogs' six. Both goalkeepers stood tall, with UAB's Leah Parsons making four stops and Samford's Peyton Hull collecting six saves to secure the clean sheets.
The match grew more physical as it wore on, with 27 fouls whistled in total and yellow cards issued to both sides in the 88th minute. UAB finished with a narrow edge in possession (55%–45%) and matched Samford nearly step-for-step on corners (6–7).
Despite the late pressure and multiple looks on target from Abbey Burns and Lailah Stewart, the Blazers couldn't break through. Parsons anchored UAB defensively, notching her fourth shutout of the season.
Up next, the Blazers hit the road to face No. 10 Memphis on Thursday, September 18. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
