Vaughn Named American Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB Volleyball's Kenendy Vaughn takes home her first career American Conference honor, being named Freshman of the Week by the American, Monday afternoon.
Vaughn led all players in the American with 51 kills, ranking second in kills per set with 4.64. The Madison, Ala. native also led the conference in points during the week with 55.0, averaged 5.00 per set, the third most amongst all players.
The 2024 Alabama Gatorade Player of the Year, Vaughn, had 26 kills against South Alabama, which were the most in a single match by any player in the American this week. Additionally, Vaughn's 16 kills at Samford were the third most by an American player in a three-set match this week.
Vaughn's 26 kills on Friday evening were the most by a Blazer since Fernanda Maida recorded 32 at Old Dominion in November 2021.
The Freshman of the Week honor is the first weekly honor earned by a Blazer this season and the first of Vaughn's career.
Vaughn's Blazers begin conference play with a home-and-away weekend. UAB opens its American slate on Friday by hosting Wichita State at Bartow Arena at 7 p.m. The Blazers then make a quick trip to Denton, Texas, to take on North Texas at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
