STARKVILLE, Miss. - UAB Softball lost its midweek game at #12/#11 Mississippi State after carrying a tie game into the sixth inning. UAB Starter Olivia Cummings blazed through the Bulldog lineup, throwing a perfect game into the fifth inning. Cummings threw just 44 pitches to 20 Mississippi State hitters.
A lead-off double broke up the perfect game in the fifth inning. Cummings pulled herself out of the game with a shallow flyout and a pair of infield balls, not allowing the run to score.
Mississippi State hit another lead-off double in the sixth inning, capitalizing on it this time around. The Bulldogs had five straight batters reach base, scoring four runs in the process.
The Blazers' lone scoring opportunity came in the second inning when Kaily Collett walked then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Hannah Miles singled to the shortstop, and Collett rounded third, but was tagged out at home.
Mississippi State's starter, Alyssa Faircloth, pitched a 14-strikeout, 2-hit complete game, tearing up the UAB lineup.
