John Paul Head Named American Conference Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM – UAB's John Paul Head has been named American Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. This is Head's first career conference award.
The sophomore outfielder from Vestavia Hills had a monster week at the plate, going 10-for-17 with six home runs, three doubles, 10 runs scored, 10 RBI, two walks, a stolen base and tallied 31 total bases. Across the four games Head played in last week, he had a slugging percentage of 1.824 and an OPS of 2.474. Additionally, Head had three hits in all three games in a series sweep over Middle Tennessee.
On Friday, he became the fourth player in program history with three home runs in a single game. In game two of the doubleheader on Saturday, he accomplished the 3-home run feat again, becoming the only player in the 48-year history of UAB Baseball to hit three home runs in a game more than once.
His three home runs on Friday and game two Saturday are tied for the most home runs in a single game in American Conference history.
Nationally, Head became the eighth player this season to hit three home runs in a single game. He also leads the American Conference this season with 10 home runs.

Head and the Blazers travel to No. 6 Auburn on Tuesday night for a midweek showdown with the Tigers. First pitch from Plainsman Park is slated for 6 p.m. on SEC Network+.
