Shirah Named American Honorable Mention

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB Softball Senior Ashlyn Shirah was named an Honorable Mention by the American Conference on Monday. The Senior from Slidell, La. hit .600 with four doubles on the week, leading the Blazers' offense to a 3-1 weekend, including UAB's second straight conference series victory.
Shirah started the week off with a three-hit performance in the Blazers' 7-3 win over Samford, driving in one run and scoring once. Shirah also had an outfield assist against the Bulldogs, throwing out a runner at home to end the first inning.
She combined to hit 6-for-11 in the weekend series against Memphis, hitting a double in all three games. Shirah hit two doubles on Friday, including a lead-off double in the fifth inning, and later scored the tying run.
Shirah capped the weekend with a two-hit game, scoring twice and driving in a run.
The Blazers and Shirah return to American play this weekend in Tulsa, Okla., taking on the Golden Hurricane from April 10-12.
