Blazers' Season Ends in Heartbreak

GREENVILLE, N.C. - UAB Softball lost 2-1 at Tulsa on a walk-off two-run single by the Golden Hurricane. The loss marks UAB's elimination from the American Conference Championships and the end of the 2026 season for the Blazers. UAB jumped ahead in the fifth inning with an Antonia Henderson lead-off home run, holding that lead until the final pitch of the game.
Olivia Cummings and Tulsa's Maura Moore battled through four scoreless innings with a combined three hits between both teams through the first half of the game. The Golden Hurricane had five base runners through that span, but solid Blazer defense shut down any Tulsa scoring opportunities.
Henderson led off the fifth inning, blasting a 2-1 pitch for a home run to left field. Henderson's homer was her fourth of the season. UAB did not manage another hit for the rest of the game, making Henderson's long ball the only hit for the Blazers.
UAB got a runner aboard in both the sixth and seventh innings, by a hit-by-pitch and a walk, respectively, but neither runner was able to advance past first base.
Tulsa threatened to score often with lead-off singles in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. The Blazers managed to shut down the fifth-inning hit with a pair of Cumming strikeouts to close the frame. The Golden Hurricane got a second hit in the sixth inning, but could not convert on the opportunity.
The Golden Hurricane did convert in the seventh inning, advancing its lead-off single with a sacrifice bunt, followed by a walk. The free pass forced a UAB pitching change, entering Hannah Cole in a save situation.
