Head Named 55th Ranked Prospect by Baseball America

BIRMINGHAM β Entering the 2027 season, UAB Baseball's John Paul Head has been named the No. 55 overall prospect for the 2027 MLB Draft by Baseball America following a breakout sophomore campaign in 2026.
In addition to his No. 55 overall ranking, Head was tabbed the No. 27 college prospect, the No. 7 overall outfielder and the No. 4 college outfielder by the organization.
On March 6-7, Head had one of the best weekends of the college baseball season against Middle Tennessee. That weekend, Head went 9-for-14 with six home runs, three doubles, 10 runs scored, 10 RBI, and a stolen base, earning him National Team of the Week honors by Baseball America.
Head led a potent Blazer offense in 2026, starting all 55 games he appeared in and launching 22 home runs, one shy of Shayne Carnes' school record of 23 set in 1998. The Vestavia Hills, Ala., native finished the season with a .329/.457/.710 slash line and recorded 147 total bases, the seventh-most in program history. Head also led the American Conference with a 1.167 OPS.
Following his outstanding sophomore campaign, Head joined the Hyannis Harbor Hawks of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League in Massachusetts. In 14 games in the wood-bat summer league, Head slugged three home runs and posted a .718 OPS.
