BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB women's soccer (3-4-1) scored twice in a span of less than four minutes in the second half to earn a 2-0 victory over in-town rival Samford (3-2-3) on Thursday night at Samford Track and Soccer Stadium. The victory marked the first time the Green and Gold defeated the Bulldogs on Samford's home field.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, UAB broke through in the 67^th minute. Lailah Stewart set up Avery Berryman, who found the back of the net to give the Blazers a 1-0 advantage. The goal was Berryman's third of the season.

Just 3:30 later, UAB doubled its lead. Caitlin Keeling assisted Vita Naihin for a goal in the 70^th minute, giving Naihin her first goal of the season and putting the Blazers ahead 2-0.

The Blazers' defense took care of the rest. Goalkeeper Macie Murphy played all 90 minutes and made five saves to record the clean sheet. Samford finished with a 15-13 advantage in total shots, while both teams put five attempts on target. UAB and Samford also finished even with seven corner kicks apiece.

UAB's defense was especially effective after halftime, holding the Bulldogs to five shots after Samford attempted 10 in the opening period. The Blazers flipped the pressure offensively with seven second-half shots after recording six in the first half.

Berryman led UAB with three shots and the game-winning goal, while Lauren Lucero also registered three attempts. Naihin scored on her lone shot of the night, and Stewart and Keeling each recorded an assist.

Up next, the Blazers open conference play by traveling to Temple on Thursday, September 17. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT.
