Volleyball Tops Troy State 3-0

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB (8-13, 1-9 Conference USA) defeated Troy State (9-9, 4-3 Atlantic Sun) 30-21, 30-18, 30-20 in volleyball action this evening at Bartow Arena.
Sophomore outside hitter Martina Shields led UAB with a match high 16 kills, 11 digs and a .600 hitting percentage. Junior middle blocker Allison Magner posted 12 kills and a .450 hitting percentage and freshman setter Jessica Liptak added 41 assists, six kills, nine digs and a .750 hitting percentage for the Blazers.
Troy State was led by senior outside hitter Erika VanHootegem who had nine kills, seven digs and hit for .353. Freshman setter Erika Leitzke added 21 assists for the Trojans.
UAB returns home to Bartow Arena Friday to take on Conference USA rival Houston at 7 p.m.
Troy State returns home to Trojan Arena Saturday to face Atlantic Sun foe Jacksonville at 11 a.m.
