The No. 15 UAB Men's soccer team finishes off its home regular season when the Blazers host TCU in a Conference USA match Friday night at 7 p.m. at UAB's West Campus Field.
The Blazers are 12-3 overall and 6-2 and in second place in Conference USA. They are 7-1 at home this season after beating C-USA leader Saint Louis 1-0 in their last match. TCU is 5-10 overall and 2-6 in C-USA. The Horned Frogs have won three of their last four matches.
Cincinnati beat UAB 3-2 this past Sunday to knock the Blazers out of a first place tie in C-USA. In that game the Blazers were without starting goalkeeper Clint Baumstark (Thornton, Colo.) due to injury. Baumstark was named to Soccer America's Team of the Week for his performance in shutting out the then No. 3 ranked Louisville 1-0.
The freshman goalkeeper should be back in action against TCU. He has recorded a school record tying eight shutouts this season. He is also on pace to break the schools' single season goals against average. Baumstark has a goals against average of 0.63 this season. The record is 0.96 set last season by David Clemente.
Flavio Monteiro (Houston, Texas) has scored five goals in his last four matches, including one against Cincinnati match. Despite playing in just eight matches due to injury, Monteiro is second on the team in goals and points scored. He has five goals and five assists for 15 points.
Martin Rey (Buenos Aires, Argentina) leads the team in scoring with nine goals and five assists for 23 points. He is third in C-USA in both categories.
UAB will honor its five seniors prior to the game. The five are Rey, forward Nelson Mata (Houston, Texas), defender Brantley Spillman (Griffin, Ga.), goalkeeper Scott Stachelski (Hoover, Ala.) and defender Jesse Roth (Houston, Texas). These seniors have combined for 53 wins and two NCAA Tournament appearances in the past four years.
