Volleyball Defeats Tulane 3-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB (12-16, 3-12 Conference USA) defeated Tulane (16-12, 7-8 C-USA) 3-1 in Conference USA volleyball action this evening at Bartow Arena.
The score was knotted 16 different times in a back and forth battle in game one which the Blazers took 32-30.
Tulane answered in game two. With the Green Wave ahead 19-18, Tulane used a 5-0 run to go up 24-18 and go on to put the game away at 30-22.
The Blazers roared back in game three, jumping out to a quick 13-4 lead and taking the momentum to win 30-15.
UAB took a quick 4-0 lead in game four and never looked back en route to a 30-20 victory.
Senior outside hitter Shelly Greene led the Blazers with 19 kills, a .333 hitting percentage and six digs. Junior right side hitter Kristi Lee and sophomore outside hitter Martina Shields each posted double-doubles for UAB. Shields had 16 kills and 13 digs and Lee added 15 kills and 16 digs. Junior middle blocker Allison Magner added 13 kills and three total blocks and freshman setter Jessica Liptak posted 53 assists for the Blazers.
Junior outside hitter Britney Hurst and sophomore middle hitter Lauren Jones-McClain each had 11 kills for Tulane. Freshman outside hitter Anastasia Kenon added 10 kills and 13 digs and freshman setter Katie Case posted 39 assists for the Green Wave.
UAB closes out the regular season of play Sunday as the Blazers take on C-USA rival Southern Miss (8-18, 3-12) at Bartow Arena at 2 p.m.
