Baseball Hands Charlotte a 13-6 C-USA Loss Here Friday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Brandon Isbell went 4-for-4 and drove in five runs to lead UAB to a 13-6 Conference USA baseball victory here Friday night at Young Memorial Field.
Isbell keyed a seven-run third inning with a three-run home run, his first of the season, as the Blazers (16-10 overall, 3-4 in C-USA) scored in each of the first four innings. The UAB run explosion came after a 54-minute rain delay that halted play in the bottom of the third.
Chris George drove in three runs on three hits, while Mark Garner added three safeties as well. Mitch Jones, Keith Barnes and Matt Gaulden added two hits each in the 16-hit Blazer attack.
The 49ers (11-13, 3-4) got a pair of bingles from five different players as Charlotte notched
UAB starter Joe Yarbrough threw five innings and allowed four runs (one earned) on eight hits and three walks with three strikeouts to earn the victory and improve to 4-1.
Justin Brown lasted only 1 2/3 innings for Charlotte to start the game as he surrendered four runs on five hits and three walks while fanning two to suffer the loss and fall to 0-1.
Game two of the series will take place here at 2 p.m. Saturday.
