UAB Wins Opening Game at FAU, Wins Seventh Straight

BOCA RATON, FLA. – UAB Baseball won its seventh straight game on Thursday night as the Blazers (20-10, 5-2) took down Florida Atlantic (15-15, 2-5) by a score of 7-2. The Green and Gold blasted two home runs early to increase their total to an American Conference leading 49 home runs.

The first of those two home runs happened three batters into the game as Landon Beaver hit his fourth home run of the season for a 2-run shot to open the scoring. This is the 10th time in the last 11 games the Blazers have scored first.

UAB added a single run in the top of the second inning. John Paul Head stepped in with two outs and drove in Austin Pierzynski on a single to give the Green and Gold a 3-0 lead.

Florida Atlantic scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the third. TJ Gramesty singled up the middle to bring around Marshall Lipsey to cut the Blazer lead to 3-1.

Kevin Hall Jr. answered for UAB in the top of the fourth. With one on and one out, Hall hit his fifth home run of the season to push across runs four and five for the Blazers.

The Owls would get a run back in the bottom half of the inning. Patrick Ward brought home Kyle Boylston on an RBI groundout to trim the UAB lead to 5-2.

UAB caused more traffic on the bases in the top of the fifth. With a runner on third and one out, Baylor Roberts scored Andrew Hunt to give the Green and Gold a 6-2 lead heading into the final third of the game.

Mason Steele recorded his fifth straight quality start for UAB. Steele allowed just one earned run over 6.0 innings, struck out seven and gave up two hits.

The Blazers scored for the final time of the night in the top of the ninth. Andrew Hunt doubled down the line in left to bring home Landon Beaver to cap off the night for the Blazers.

Brendan Conner tossed the final three innings and held the Owls to zero runs as the Blazers won game one of the series, 7-2. Conner struck out three in the outing and picked up his second save of the season.

NOTES
- With the win, UAB has now won seven straight games, the Blazers' longest streak since 2014 when the Green and Gold picked up 10 straight wins. The streak is tied for the eighth longest in D1 Baseball.
- John Paul Head picked up his ninth multi-hit game as he recorded two hits.
- Landon Beaver tallied his seventh multi-game with two hits on the night. Beaver also registered his fourth game with multiple RBI.
- UAB walked at least 10 times for the seventh time this season. The Blazers are 7-0 in those games.
- 19 of the Blazers 20 wins this season have come when scoring seven runs or more.
- Mason Steele and Brendan Conner have anchored a Blazer pitching staff that has allowed 3.2 runs per game over the last five games.

UAB and Florida Atlantic are set to play game two of the series on Friday night at FAU Baseball Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
