Blazer Volleyball Defeats Memphis, 3-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB (9-13, 3-2) defeated Memphis (13-10, 0-5) in four games in Bartow Arena on Saturday night. It was the fifth straight win for the Lady Blazers, continuing their longest winning streak of the season.
The Blazers won the first game of the match, 36-34. Memphis rebounded to tie things up, winning the second game, 30-24. UAB won the pivotal game three, by a decisive 30-24 margin. The Blazers were down 22-20 in the fourth game, but rallied to win the game, 30-28.
"This is awesome. For some reason, from mid-October on, our team really gets it together," said head coach Melinda Claiborne. "To be able to put two matches back-to-back like we did this weekend, the girls have every right to really enjoy this one. I am really excited because these girls are playing really exciting volleyball and they are coming together as a team."
Senior Kristi Lee led the team with 53 total attacks and a .302 hitting percentage. Lee also had 20 kills and 20 digs. For the 15th match this season, junior outside hitter Martina Shields posted double digits in kills, recording 20 to go along with six digs and a .239 hitting percentage for UAB. Senior middle blocker Allison Magner recorded eleven kills, nine digs and ten block assists.
UAB will next face St. Louis on Bartow Arena on Tuesday, October 22, at 7:30 p.m.
