Volleyball Team Tops DePaul 3-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB (13-17, 5-6 Conference USA) defeated DePaul (5-24, 1-11 C-USA) 30-26, 27-30, 32-30, 30-25 in Conference USA volleyball action Saturday evening at Bartow Arena.
Four Blazers posted double-doubles for the match. Junior outside hitter Martina Shields recorded her sixth consecutive and her team-leading 13th overall double-double of the season with 23 kills and 12 digs for UAB. Junior middle blocker Karen Boyd had 14 kills, 21 digs and seven total blocks to go along with a .333 hitting percentage for the Blazers. Senior setter Dina Katsoulis added 58 assists and 14 digs for her seventh double-double of the season and senior middle blocker Allison Magner posted 13 kills, 11 digs and six total blocks for UAB.
"This was a great win for our team," said UAB head coach Melinda Claiborne. "The team has been playing well all week. We are executing well individually and as a team. I think we are coming together at a great time. We have two tough matches left in the regular season, but we couldn't ask for a better opportunity."
Sophomore middle blocker Janet Goreham had 14 kills and 11 digs to lead DePaul. Sophomore setter Amie West added 38 assists and eight digs for the Blue Demons.
UAB next travels to Louisville to face the Cardinals Friday at 7:30 p.m. (ET).
