Marin Pusek Named First Team All-South Region

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Junior midfielder Marin Pusek was named to the First Team All-South Region as chosen by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Thursday. It marks the second consecutive season the Brampton, Ontario native has received the honor and the first time a Blazer has received back-to-back first team All-South honors.
"I am extremely proud of Marin and it is a testament to how hard he had to work to get this honor, not only this season, but in last season as well," UAB head coach Mike Getman said. "He had a great season and is very deserving of this honor. I'm pleased that the other coaches in the region has recognized Marin as one of the to midfielders in the south."
Pusek was the key to getting the Blazer offense going. He started 17 games and had 11 points during the 2002 campaign, including two goals and a team-best seven assists. Pusek now has 10 assists for his career, which is only three shy of cracking UAB's top-10 or career assists.
Pusek was also named to the first team All-Conference USA for a second consecutive year earlier in the season.
The men's soccer team closed another successful campaign, finishing with an overall record of 9-7-3 on the season. It marked the 10th consecutive year the men's soccer team have finished above .500 in Getman's 11 years at the helm.
