UAB Softball Finishes Invitational 2-2

Columbia, S.C. - The Blazers beat Tennessee Tech, 3-1, their third game of the Gamecock Invitational.
In the third inning, freshman utility player Kris Lara (Elk Grove, Calif.) led off with a double. With two outs, junior outfielder Cliffanie Engram (Pelham, Ala.) singled to bring in Lara for UAB's first run of the game. Shortstop Candice Hithe (Daphne, Ala.) scored on an RBI single by senior Aimee Vaughn (New Orleans, La.).
Senior first baseman Kai Paul (Birmingham, Ala.) hit a double to right field in the sixth inning. Kerri Foster (McCalla, Ala.), who pinch ran for Paul, scored off of a double by junior pitcher Kelli Thompson (Decatur, Ala.).
Thompson (1-0) posted a win for UAB throwing six innings. She allowed only one run off of two hits and struck out three.
Senior Megan Stephenson (Washington, Ill.) received the save for UAB, which was her second of the season. She allowed one hit and also struck out one.
The last game of the invitational UAB posted another victory against East Tennessee State, 4,-1. Hithe was hit by a pitch to lead off the first inning.
Sophomore outfielder Emily Scarbrough (Ooltewah, Tenn.) hit a single. Both scored on a throwing error by ETSU's shortstop on a hit by Vaughn.
In the fourth inning, Vaughn led off with a single and scored on an infield single by sophomore catcher Amanda Ellis (Axis, Ala.) to add another run for the Blazers.
With one out, Vaughn hit a shot to right field to bring in Engram in the fifth inning.
Foster (3-1) recorded a win for the Blazers pitching four innings and striking out three.
UAB will play their first home game of the season this Saturday against Centenary beginning at 1 p.m.
