Birmingham, Ala. - The Blazers (8-3) picked up two wins at home Sunday afternoon against in-state rival Alabama A & M. UAB won the first game, 11-1, and the second game, 25-0.
Junior shortstop Candice Hithe (Daphne, Ala.) led the Blazers in game one going 4-4, and scoring two runs. Kelli Thompson (Decatur, Ala.) went 2-3 with five RBIs, three runs scored and one homerun. Amanda Ellis collected two hits for UAB with two RBIs, and one homerun. Beth Mullins (Fairhope, Ala.), Aimee Vaughn (New Orleans, La.), Cliffanie Engram (Pelham, Ala.), and Kris Lara (Elk Grove, Calif.) each had one RBI for the Blazers.
Junior Thompson (2-1) picked up the win for UAB, allowing one run off of three hits. She had eight strikeouts over five innings of work.
In game two, Paul led the Blazers with four hits including two doubles and a homerun with five RBIs. Sophomore Amber Rouse (Morris, Ala.) and Vaughn each collected four RBIs along with Engram and Mullins each having three RBIs.
Kerri Foster (McCalla, Ala.) posted a win for the Blazers going five innings. Foster (4-1) allowed only one hit and had eight strikeouts.
UAB is up next tomorrow for a doubleheader, beginning at 4 p.m. against Oakland.
