Softball Falls To Louisville, 2-1

Birmingham, Ala. - UAB (31-17m C-USA 11-7) fell to Louisville (22-24, C-USA 9-10) this afternoon at George Ward Park Field #6 in the final game of the series.
The Cardinals took an early lead in the first inning. Senior shortstop Kenzie Meisenburg led the inning off with a triple to center field. Centerfielder Sara Bausher drove Meisenburg in with a sacrifice fly to left field.
Louisville added another run in the top of the third inning when Nicole Sparks scored on a single by catcher Lisa McMillan to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.
After leading the bottom of the inning off with a walk, freshman outfielder Kristin Stanfill (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) scored on a single to left field by junior Cliffanie Engram (Pelham, Ala.), 2-1.
Junior shortstop Candice Hithe (Daphne, Ala.) led the Blazers going 3-4 this afternoon.
Junior Kelli Thompson (Decatur, Ala.) took the lost for UAB. Thompson (9-3) allowed two runs off six hits in her four innings of work. Senior Megan Stephenson (Washington, Ill.) came on in relief for Thompson in the fifth inning, allowing only 1 hit and striking out four.
The Blazers are up next tomorrow afternoon to face Lipscomb in Nashville, Tenn. for a doubleheader, beginning at 2 p.m.
