Lady Blazers Finish Seventh At Beacon Woods Invitational

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 12, 2003 Golf Contact: AARON JORDAN TAMPA, Fla. ----- Junior Liz Schweihs led the UAB women's golf team to a seventh-place finish at the Beacon Woods Invitational here Sunday. Schweihs fired a three-round score of 222 (75-73-74) to place seventh overall in the individual competition, the best finish of her career.
The Lady Blazers fired rounds of 309-306-312 to finish with a 927 on the 6,-015-yard Beacon Woods Country Club.
Schweihs finish was the best of her career, besting her previous best of a ninth-place finish at the Lady Jaguar Invitational in the spring of 2003. Following Schweihs lead was junior Brooke Mangan who finish in a tie for 18th overall with a 230 (75-77-78). Freshman Martha Hudson finished in a tie for 31st overall with a 236 (79-79-78), while sophomore Janey Deimling (80-77-85/242) and Katie Kane (83-80-82/245) finished in 38th and 42nd, respectively.
The USF women's golf team led box to wire and closed strong to win the Beacon Woods Invitational by 11 strokes over second place Mississippi. The Bulls entered the final round with a seven shot lead over Ole Miss and posted a 294 on Sunday for the final margin of victory in the nine-team tournament. Southern Miss placed third overall with a 908, while Miami (910) and Central Florida (914) rounds out the top five.
Miami's Tina Miller won the individual medalist honor with a 54-hole score of 216.
The Lady Blazers will next be in action when they travel to Atlanta, Ga. top compete at the FIU/Pat Bradley Invitationall on Oct. 30-Nov. 1.
