Women's Golf Leads South Alabama Lady Jaguar Invitational

TAMPA, Fla. ----- Each of the five UAB women's golfers finished in the top 13 overall to lead the Lady Blazers in the opening round of the 2003 South Alabama Lady Jaguar Invitational here Monday. UAB shot a team score of 314 to take the lead on the par 72, 5,821 yard course.
"I felt like we played pretty good today," UAB women's golf coach Kim Wilcox said. "Everyone played solid and because of that, we are beating some good teams."
The Lady Blazers are leading the seven-team field by eight strokes over second place Troy State who shot a 322, and are 25 strokes ahead of tournament host South Alabama (339). The University of Mobile sits fourth with a 343, while Lipscomb (345) rounds out the top five.
Katie Kane led the team on Monday, firing a 38-39 for a 77 which is good enough for second place, two strokes behind South Alabama's Angela Villa for the individual lead. Jenni Elmore is tied for fourth overall with a 78 (40-38), while Liz Schweihs (79) and Brooke Mangan (80) are in sixth and seventh place, respectively. Janey Deimling rounded out the Lady Blazers with an 83 to place in a tie for 13th.
Tournament play will conclude on Tuesday, March 10.
