Blazers Fall To Northern Arizona 3-0

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - UAB (1-3) fell to Northern Arizona 30-12, 30-17, 30-20 in volleyball action Friday afternoon at the Fiesta Bowl Tournament hosted on Northern Arizona's campus.
Senior middle blocker Karen Boyd led UAB with eight points on seven kills. Senior outside hitter Martina Shields posted six points on six kills, had seven digs and hit for .364, while freshman setters Bilun Gunal and Jenna Link added 11 and nine assists respectively for the Blazers.
Sophomore outside hitter Ellie Butterfield had 13 points on 10 kills and hit for .556 to lead Northern Arizona. Senior setter/outside hitter Claire Robertson posted 9.5 points for Northern Arizona, including eight kills, 22 assists and a .400 hitting percentage.
"The match was a real uneven team performance," said UAB head coach Melinda Claiborne. "We never got into a good flow. We should have played much better."
The Blazers are set to play the University of Missouri-Kansas City later today.
UAB will continue play in the Fiesta Bowl Tournament Saturday as the team will face the University of San Francisco at noon (CT) and will close the tournament against UTEP at 4 p.m. (CT).
