Blazers Lose 3-2 Decision To Missouri-Kansas City

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - UAB (1-4) fell to the University of Missouri-Kansas City 28-30, 30-19, 31-29, 28-30, 15-13 in volleyball action Saturday evening at the Fiesta Bowl Tournament hosted by Northern Arizona.
Sophomore outside hitter Breanne Swenson led UAB, posting a double-double with 21 kills and 15 digs to go along with six total blocks. Senior outside hitter Martina Shields also recorded a double-double for the Blazers with 10 kills and 11 digs and senior middle blocker Karen Boyd added 17 kills and seven total blocks, while hitting for .333. Freshman setter Jenna Link posted 56 assists for the Blazers.
"We had good performances from Breanne (Swenson) and Karen (Boyd) tonight," said UAB head coach Melinda Claiborne. "It was a hard fought match and it gave some of our young players some good experience. If we keep after it, things will eventually go our way."
Missouri-Kansas City (1-4) was led by senior middle hitter Sara Foster who had 19 kills and hit for .425. Sophomore setter Kristy Waltemeyer added 50 assists for the Kangaroos.
UAB will face the University of San Francisco at noon (CT) and UTEP at 4 p.m. (CT) in Saturday's tournament action.
