BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Sophomore middle blocker Jaime Bevan had 14 points on 12 kills and three total blocks, while hitting for .409 in helping lead East Carolina to a 3-0 win over UAB in Conference USA volleyball action Friday evening at Bartow Arena.
Junior outside hitter Erica Wilson posted 11.5 points on 10 kills while hitting for .318 and freshman outside hitter Kelley Wernert added 11 points on 10 kills and two total blocks for ECU. Sophomore setter Heidi Krug added a match-high 39 assists for the Pirates.
UAB was led by freshman middle blocker Nicole Bowland who had 10 points on nine kills while hitting for .333. Sophomore setter Jenna Link added 33 assists and eight digs for the Blazers.
Game one was tight early as the score was tied on seven occasions. East Carolina (7-9, 1-0 Conference USA) pulled ahead 10-9 and never relinquished the lead en route to a 30-22 win. ECU out hit UAB .306-.220 in the game.
The Pirates jumped out to a commanding 12-1 lead in game two, following an 11-0 ECU run. East Carolina once again out hit UAB .303-.088 as it took the game 30-20.
East Carolina never trailed in game three and won the contest 30-20.
UAB (1-10, 0-1 C-USA) returns home to Bartow Arena Saturday to face C-USA foe Charlotte at 7 p.m.
