Women's Golf Team Finishes Ninth At Taco Bell Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. ----- UAB senior Brooke Mangan fired the best round of the tournament here Tuesday as the Blazer women's golf team finished in ninth place here at the Taco Bell/ECU Intercollegiate.
Mangan, from Victoria, Australia, carded a four-under par 68 in Tuesday's final, the low score registered by any of the golfers representing the 17 teams in the tournament. She finished in a tie for third place at 214 with Patti Hogeboom of Augusta State.
The tournament, hosted by East Carolina University, was played at the 6,093-yard Bradford Creek Golf Club.
Augusta State captured the team title with a score of 869, followed by Coastal Carolina at 876 and East Carolina at 883. Maryland placed fourth at 891 with Birmingham-Southern in fifth place at 900.
UAB recorded its best score of the three rounds played with a 299 on Tuesday.
Individually, UAB's Mangan finished two shots behind medalist Garrett Phillips of Augusta State while Katie Stepanek of Maryland was second at 213.
The Blazers' other individuals were Liz Schweihs who finished in a tie for 13th place at 225; Janey Deimling, who tied for 54th at 231 after shooting a 75 Tuesday; Kelli Cassidy, Tie, 73rd, 243; and Martha Hudson, Tie, 83rd, 247.
