UAB Volleyball Blanked By No. 22 Louisville, 3-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The UAB volleyball team was defeated by Louisville, 3-0, here on Saturday evening, despite a solid .555 hitting percentage and a match-high 35 set assists from sophomore setter Jenna Link. The Blazers fell 30-20, 30-22 and 30-28, dropping to 1-14 overall and 0-4 in Conference USA action.
"I was very pleased with our competitiveness tonight," said UAB head coach Melinda Claiborne. "The team was not intimidated by the hype surrounding Louisville. This was our best offensive night against one of the best blocking teams in the conference. Jenna Link did a great job setting for us. I feel like our younger players really took a big step towards the next level of play."
The Cardinals (14-2, 4-0) took the first game, 30-20, with a .366 team hitting percentage, while holding the Blazers to a .122 percentage. In game two, Louisville hit .294 as a team and took the game, 30-22. UAB had its best performance in the third game, as it tallied a .342 team hitting percentage, but still fell, 30-28.
Sophomore libero Briana Galvin led the Blazers with a match high 12 defensive digs and was second on the team with a .333 hitting percentage, while Cassi Ociesa recorded 10 kills and 12.5 points.
Louisville's Jennifer Hoffman had an .833 hitting percentage for the game, as she tallied 10 kills and had no errors. In addition, Hoffman had four block assists. Lena Ustymenko led both teams with 14 kills in the match.
UAB will be back on the road on Oct. 12, as it faces Georgia State in Atlanta, Ga.
