Christina Wentworth, a 5-3 left-handed golf standout from Macon, Ga., and Westside High School, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play college golf for UAB, head women's golf coach Kim Wilcox announced today. Wentworth is the first signee of the 2004-05 recruiting class for the Blazers.
"She'll be the first left-hander we've had at UAB in my tenure here," Wilcox said. "She has had an outstanding junior and high school career and we're thrilled she's chosen UAB to further her career in golf and in the classroom."
Wentworth is a three-time all-region, Macon City High School Champion and Westside High team MVP. She also captured two straight regional titles as a sophomore and junior. Last season, she was named to the Macon Telegraph All-Middle Georgia Golf Team for the third straight year.
On the junior circuit, Wentworth won the 2004 Southeastern Junior Golf Tour Championship and finished second at the AJGA Dunlop Greenville Invitational, one of the major AJGA events. Her play earned her full exempt status for the 2004 season. In her career, Wentworth has captured over 25 junior golf tournament titles.
"It's obvious that Christina has a great deal of talent and potential," Wilcox said. "Our team stroke average improved 11-shots from last fall to this fall, so we continue to improve as a golf program. Players the caliber of Christina will only continue that progress as we build toward a championship level at UAB."
