BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB volleyball team continues a five-match homestand with its final non-conference contest of the season against Georgia State on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Bartow Arena. The Blazers (14-7, 5-6 C-USA) have compiled a 9-1 record in matches played outside Conference USA, but have not faced a non-conference opponent since Sept. 17. The Lady Panthers (9-14, 8-7 CAA) have won just two matches in nine tries all-time against UAB.
After dropping a 3-0 match to UCF on Friday evening at Bartow Arena, the Blazers rebounded with a 3-0 sweep of their own over Southern Miss on Sunday afternoon. Freshman Ivana Bozic recorded 33 kills in UAB's two matches combined while sophomore Angie Ping had a career-best 13 kills on Sunday to go along with a .462 hitting percentage.
Bozic leads the Blazers with 4.51 kills-per-game and ranks second with 2.65 digs-per-game. UAB's freshman setter, Nevena Stefanov, has played in every game and leads the team with 12.35 assists-per-contest. Sophomores Nicole Bowland (3.06 digs-per-game) and Shaniquwa Cooper (1.03 blocks-per-game) lead the Blazers in those respective categories.
Georgia State has won four in a row, and six of its last seven, including a pair of 3-0 sweeps against conference rivals James Madison and George Mason last weekend. The Lady Panthers are led by Alex Blenche who averages 4.05 kills-per-game and by Christen Garcia's 392 digs-per-game.
