Bozic Named Third-Team All-Conference USA

IRVING Texas. -- UAB freshman Ivana Bozic was named to the All-Conference USA third-team and also received a spot on the conference's All-Freshman team, the league announced Wednesday. The first-year standout from Serbia & Montenegro leads the team and ranks sixth in C-USA with 4.47 kills-per-game and has helped the Blazers to their greatest single-season turnaround in school history.
Bozic becomes the first UAB volleyball player to receive all-conference recognition since 2003 when Martina Shields was named third-team All-C-USA and Bilun Gunal garnered All-Freshman honors. Bozic is also the first Blazer ever named to both the All-Freshman and All-Conference squads.
Bozic made an immediate impact in her first season at UAB, being named to a pair of all-tournament teams in the early season, as well as being the first Blazer ever to receive C-USA Volleyball Player of the Week honors on Sept. 12. She leads the team in kills, ranks third in digs-per-game with 2.69 and ranks second in the league with 0.58 service aces-per-game.
UAB finished the regular season with a 14-12 overall record and 5-10 mark in conference matches. The tenth-seeded Blazers are in Houston this week where they will face No. 7 SMU on Thursday at 8 p.m. in the final first-round match of the 2005 Conference USA Volleyball Tournament.
