Blazers Complete Day One of Lady Pirate Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The UAB women's golf team shot a team total of 319 in day one of the East Carolina University Lady Pirate Invitational to finish the day in 18th place out of 20 squads competing. Birmingham-Southern is holding first place with a first-round total of 288, while UCF is close behind in second with a 291. Elon (294), UTEP (295) and Maryland (297) round out the top five.
"We didn't play that well today," said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. "We are towards the bottom of the standings right now, but there are two more days of play left. We are hoping to do much better tomorrow."
Sophomore Alyson Mitchell was UAB's top performer on Friday, shooting a four-over 76 to stand in a tie for 38th place. Senior Jennifer Head ended the day with a round of 80 to put her in 74th, while fellow senior Lois Jones shot an 81 for 82nd place. Senior Martha Hudson and sophomore Christina Wentworth rounded out the Blazers' roster with rounds of 82 and 83 respectively.
Day two of the three-day tournament will kick-off on Saturday morning at Bradford Creek Golf Course. The third and final day of competition will be held on Sunday, October 22.
