Two Blazers Selected To Conference USA All-Academic Team

IRVING, Texas - UAB men's soccer student-athletes Lukasz Kapwisz and Jeremy Drake were named to the to the 2006 Conference USA All-Academic Team, announced league officials on Thursday. With two representatives on the squad, the Blazers tied for the most student-athletes from any one school in the league.
The all-academic team consists of 11 student-athletes that have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a starter or key reserve on the men's soccer team.
Kwapisz, who has started every match for the Blazers this season and ranks second on the team with seven goals on the campaign, has maintained a perfect 4.00 GPA as a chemistry major. The senior forward has made the President's List every semester he has been in school, and also earned the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll each season. Furthermore, he also ranks among the league leaders in goals (T4th - 7) and shots (8th - 44).
Drake also earns academic honors with a 3.85 GPA as a biology/pre-med major. The senior goalkeeper has started and played in 13 contests this season for the Blazers. He currently leads Conference USA in total saves (69) and saves per game (5.31). The 5.31 saves per game also ranks 13th in the nation. The Birmingham, Ala. native also has earned C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of his three seasons, while earning a spot on the President's List and Dean's List every semester in college.
A total of eight seniors, two juniors and one sophomore make up the 2006 All-Academic Team. They include SMU senior classmates Mynor Gonzalez and goalkeeper Matt Wideman, Tulsa senior Matt Thomas and junior Eric Burkholder and Memphis junior forward/midfielder Jared Britcher and sophomore defender Robert Sausaman. Additionally, seniors Nathan Li of Kentucky, Karim Boukhemis of Marshall and Ryan Leeton of South Carolina round out the 2006 All-Academic Team.
