UAB Men's Tennis Falls to Auburn, 5-2

AUBURN, Ala. --- The UAB men's tennis team came up short in close matches at all three doubles positions, then fell in four of six singles spots as the Blazers dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 50 Auburn here Saturday.
UAB (6-3) had some opportunities to upset the Tigers, but three-set losses at No. 2 and No. 4 singles turned out to be huge for Auburn.
The Tigers (10-4) took a 1-0 lead by claiming the doubles point with narrow wins at all three positions. Auburn then assumed a 3-0 advantage with wins at No. 1 by Alex Schweizer over UAB's Anton Mavrin (6-1, 6-2) and at No. 2 by Nick Lane over Kristijan Mitrovski (6-3, 4-6, 6-3). The Blazers then notched one of their two victories on the day as Johannes Spangenberg won at No. 5 singles over Auburn's Pawel Dilaj, 6-4, 6-2.
Auburn's other wins came at No. 4 as Milan Krnjetin defeated UAB's Andre Maier, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 and at No. 6 as Lukas Marsoun beat Kruno Despotovski, 6-4, 6-3.
The Blazers' other win was a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles as senior Sebastian Falk disposed of Auburn's Robbert Lathouwers.
UAB is back in action on Tuesday, March 21 as the Blazers play host to Troy. Match time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Brook Highland Racquet Club.
