Blazers in 12th After First Round of Great Smokies Intercollegiate

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - The UAB women's golf team ended the first day of the Great Smokies Intercollegiate tied for 12th place out of 23 participating teams. The Blazers are tied with Elon, both posting first-round scores of 311. East Tennessee State sits in first place heading into the final day of competition with a total of 289. Host-school Western Carolina is in second and Gardner-Webb is holding third place with scores of 292 and 302 respectively.
Senior Martha Hudson is leading the Blazers with a first-round score of two-over 74. She is currently in a tie for 11 place overall. Sophomore Alyson Mitchell boasted a round of 75 to stand in 20th, while senior Jennifer Head is in 46th with a round of 78.
Sophomore Christina Wentworth and freshman Carolyn Cochran 84 and 92 respectively to end the day in 96th and 113th position.
The two-day event will conclude on Sunday as the teams battle in the final round of the competition.
