UAB Ties For Eighth Place At Lady Indian Classic

JONESBORO, Ark. - The UAB women's golf team tied with Austin Peay and Drake for eighth place at the Lady Indian Classic, hosted by Arkansas State, with a two-round score of 637 on Tuesday. The Blazers shot a low round of 315 during round one, followed by a 322 in the second round at the Jonesboro Country Club.
"I think that we are getting better," said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. "We had a couple players that performed really well. We just need to keep going out there and practicing to continue to improve."
Freshman Jaime Brabb led UAB with rounds of 78 and 76 to tie for 11th place in the individual standings with a total of 154.
Junior Christina Wentworth and freshman Lindsay Taylor tied for the 25th position by tallying a 157, including identical first-round scores of 77 and second-round totals of 80.
Junior Alyson Mitchell recorded a 169 to tied for 70th and redshirt freshman Ashley Looney placed 82nd with a 179.
Central Arkansas took home the tournament title with a total of 603, including a tournament-best 295 during round one. Eastern Kentucky finished second at 620 and Murray State placed third with a score of 625.
Maggie Welch of McNeese State won the individual crown, shooting rounds of 74 and 73 for a five-over par 147.
The Blazers final competition of the 2007 fall season will be on Nov. 5-6 when they host the UAB Fall Beach Blast in Gulf Shores, Ala.
