TERRE HAUTE, Ind. ---- UAB senior Elizabeth Ambrus finished 106th overall out of 253 runners at the 2007 NCAA Cross Country Championship, completing a comeback from mono that nearly ended her season two months ago.
Ambrus, an all-region and all-conference honoree this season, finished the 6K course with a time of 21:35.0. This was the second national meet, in which she raced.
Texas Tech's Sally Kipyego won the individual title with a finishing time of 19:30.9. Stanford won the team championship.
Following the Notre Dame Invitational on Sept. 28, Ambrus was diagnosed with mono and was forced to miss the next meet, and four weeks of training. She returned the week of the Conference USA Championship, where she placed seventh, earning her third all-conference honor of her career. Two weeks later she placed ninth at the NCAA South Regional, earning her second All-South Region honor and automatically qualified for the national meet.
Ambrus was the Blazers' top runner in four meets, including two individual runner-up titles to begin the season.
In 2005, Ambrus was the C-USA individual champion and named the women's cross country athlete of the year.
