Volleyball Splits Pair of Matches at Pittsburgh Invitational

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The UAB volleyball team shutout Buffalo, 3-0 (30-22, 30-14, 30-14), before losing to Pittsburgh, 3-1 (29-31, 30-19, 32-30, 30-16), on the opening day of the Pittsburgh Invitational Friday.
The Blazers are now 5-3 on the year after splitting their matches Friday.
Junior outside hitter Ivana Bozic posted a pair of double-doubles on the day, while senior libero Brianna Galvin combined for 29 digs in the two matches to move up to sixth place all-time at UAB in career digs.
Against Buffalo, Bozic paced the Blazers with her third double-double of the season, finishing with a three-game season-high 16 kills and 11 digs. Bozic hit an impressive .426 on 28 attempts for the match.
Junior middle blocker Casey Dent was second on the team with seven kills on .308 hitting to go along with a team-best three blocks.
Galvin matched her three-game season-high of 14 digs to move her up to sixth all-time at UAB in career digs with 1,239.
Junior setter Nevena Stefanov had 37 assists against the Bulls to aid the Blazers' offensive production.
Buffalo drops to 1-9 on the year with the loss.
Bozic again led the Blazers against Pittsburgh, landing 18 kills and making 16 digs. Senior outside hitter Fernanda Domingos also reached double figures in kills with 11.
Stefanov had 46 assists in the contests, while Dent led the team in total blocks with three.
Galvin led the team defensively, finishing with 15 digs, while sophomore defensive specialist Haylee Adkins and junior outside hitter Aleksandra Vujovic each finished with 10 digs.
Pittsburgh was led by the tandem of Kelly Campbell and Diana Andreyko who finished with 21 kills and 20 kills, respectively. Setter Emily Burke had 64 assists.
Pittsburgh improves to 4-5 on the year and 2-0 in the Pittsburgh Invitational with the win.
The Blazers will conclude play at the Pittsburgh Invitational on Saturday when they take on George Mason at 10 a.m. CT.
