BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Junior midfielder Two-Boys Gumede was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) First-Team All-Midwest Region. Gumede becomes the 10th Blazer to earn the recognition, which is voted on by the coaches in the region.
"I am very pleased that Two-Boys has received this honor but I am not surprised," UAB head coach Mike Getman said. "He showed his class in every game. I am happy to see that other coaches recognized his talent and contribution to our team."
Gumede made an immediate impact for UAB after missing all of last season. The native of South Africa, who was tabbed First-Team All-Conference USA following the regular season, closed the campaign second on the team with five goals and 15 points. He also tied for the team lead with three assists and led the team in shots (40) and shots on goal (22) on the year.
Gumede's first-team all-region nod marks the third straight season a UAB player has landed on the squad. It also is the seventh time over the last eight years that a UAB men's soccer student-athlete has garnered first-team all-region honors.
