BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Senior volleyball player Aleksandra Vujovic has been named the UAB Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
Vujovic and her Blazer teammates will play this week in the first round of the NCAA Championship. The Blazers travel to Lincoln, Neb., for an opening round match Friday at 4:30 p.m. CT against Missouri State.
Vujovic has been a key part of UAB's success in 2008. After three years as an outside hitter, the senior moved to the libero position this season. She has posted double-digit digs in 26 matches, including nine of the past 10. Additionally, she is averaging 3.42 digs per set for a Blazer team that finished the regular season ranked second in digs in Conference USA.
A native of Lazarevac, Serbia, Vujovic has also been recognized for her work in the classroom. In 2007, she was named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, recognizing student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Vujovic is the third volleyball player to receive the Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor this fall, joining teammates Casey Dent and Andrea Lalic.
