CRYSTAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The UAB women's golf team is in fourth place out of 10 teams with a two-round total of 642 at the conclusion of day one of the El Diablo Intercollegiate, hosted by Eastern Kentucky at the El Diablo Golf and Country Club. Freshman Jaime Brabb leads the Blazers with a score of 153 to put her in a tie for third in the individual standings.
"We are playing well at this tournament," said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. "We are constantly improving and it is nice to see us playing good, especially since this is just our second event of the spring season.
"Jaime has really been stepping up and playing good golf. The fact that she is just a freshman, it is great to see her performing like this in just her first year of collegiate competition."
Florida Atlantic is leading the team race with a score of 618, followed by Florida Gulf Coast in second at 636. Host-school Eastern Kentucky is sitting in third place with a total of 640.
Brabb carded rounds of 80 and 73 to give her a 153 after day one and put her in a three-way tie for third place. Brabb is seven strokes behind Florida Atlantic's Praewnapa Phol-uayporn, who is leading the tournament with a score of 146.
UAB junior Christina Wentworth is in 11th place after shooting rounds of 80 and 78 to give her a first-day score of 158.
Freshman Lindsay Taylor is tied for 21st after tallying a 165, while sophomore Carolyn Cochran shot a 167 to tie for 25th place. Junior Alyson Mitchell rounded out UAB's efforts with a 179, which places her 47th overall.
The Blazers will conclude their competition at the El Diablo Intercollegiate Friday with the third and final round of the tournament.
