Blazers Lose Second Straight To Hawaii, 3-1

HONOLULU, Hawaii - A three-run fifth inning was all Hawaii needed Wednesday night to beat UAB as the Rainbows downed the Blazers, 3-1, at Les Murakami Stadium. Hawaii improves to 7-9 with the win, while UAB is now 6-9.
Joshua Schneider (2-0) got the win on the mound for the Rainbows in his first start of the season. Schneider threw six innings and allowed no runs and struck out six.
Cameron Wheeler earned his first save of the season after he closed out the ninth, allowing just one hit and no runs.
Mitch Kloskowski (2-1) was tabbed with the loss for UAB after throwing 6.1 innings in which he allowed three runs on five hits, while striking out five.
Left fielder Phil Bell led the Blazers offensively, going 3-for-4 with three singles, a run scored and a stolen base. First baseman Ryan Keedy was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI to extend his hit streak to nine games.
Designated hitter Digger Towe and third baseman Luke Stewart each finished with one hit for the Blazers.
Hawaii third baseman Vinnie Catricala was 2-for-4 with two RBI to pace the Rainbows, while left fielder Sean Montplaisir was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.
Hawaii took a 3-0 lead in the fifth on four hits. Catcher Kevin Fujii singled to lead off the inning and then scored on a single by Montplaisir.
Second baseman Jonathan Hee scored the second Rainbow run in the fifth on a wild pitch by Kloskowski and then Montplaisir scored the final run of the inning on a single to left field by Catricala.
UAB got on the board in the eighth when Bell hit a two-out single to center field and then moved up to second on a balk and on to third on a wild pitch to put himself in position to score on a double to left-center field by Keedy to cut the deficit to 3-1.
The Blazers have concluded their season-long six-game road trip and will now return home to host Mississippi State at Young Memorial Field on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
