Women's Golf Second After First Round Of Towson Invitational

ST. MICHAEL'S, Md. - The UAB women's golf team is sitting in second place after the opening round of the Towson Invitational Monday. The Blazers shot a 314 over 18 holes at the 5,975-yard, par-70 Harbourtowne Country Club.
Longwood is leading the tournament with a first-round total of 306. Host-school Towson and Old Dominion are in third place and trailing UAB by three strokes at 317.
"Today was a good start for us," said UAB head coach Kim Wilcox. "We had great conditions on the course and it was a good way to kick off our season."
Senior Christina Wentworth led the way for the Blazers by shooting a five-over 75 to put her in a tie for third place in the individual standings going into the final round on Tuesday.
Sophomore Lindsay Taylor posted an opening-round score of 78 to sit in ninth place overall.
Sophomore Jaime Brabb is tied for 12th by tallying an 80 on day one, followed by senior Alyson Mitchell tied for 18th after shooting an 81. Sophomore Ashley Looney rounded out UAB's efforts with a 92 to tie for 36th place.
The Towson Invitational marks the first tournament of the 2008 fall season for the Blazers.
The final round of the Towson Invitational will be held on Tuesday at the Harbourtowne Country Club.
