Hey Blazer Fans,
Sorry I didn't write a blog last week, but it's been a pretty depressing end to a great season. Unfortunately, we failed to win the regular season title by losing to Marshall on the road. Luckily though, we were scheduled to play them in the semi-final of the C-USA Tournament. We trained hard all week to prepare for the big game, and flew to Tulsa an extra day early to make sure everyone was well rested and focused on this huge game.
The spirits of the team were great in the few hours before the game kicked off. Everyone was loose, excited, and ready to play. Unfortunately, the result did not go how we expected. After tying 0-0 through regulation and two overtime periods, the game would be decided on Penalty Kicks, where Marshall would win and move on to the next round.
After both of these disappointing games, our confidence was not too high going into the NCAA Selection Show on Monday. We knew we would be a long shot after failing to get results against Marshall, twice. And as most of us expected, we didn't get in, so our season is over.
Although most of us consider the season a failure, it was actually a very good year for us. We finished 12-4-2, which is one of the best records in the nation, and the best UAB has had in a long time. We won numerous C-USA Player of the Week awards on both the offensive and defensive side. We had 6 C-USA All-Conference players, as well as the C-USA Offensive Player of the Year.
Well, to wrap my season of blogs up, I, and the team, would like to thank everyone for coming out to support us at home this year. We had a very good home record, and a lot of that is due to the great home crowds that inspire us to play our best for our school. So thanks again, and we'll see you out at West Campus Field next year!
