Andrea Lalic Selected To C-USA Volleyball All-Academic Team

HOUSTON -- UAB senior outside hitter Andrea Lalic has earned a spot on the 2009 Conference USA All-Academic Team, as announced Friday by the league office on the opening day of the conference tournament at Rice's Tudor Fieldhouse.
Lalic owns a 3.55 GPA as a civil engineering major with a minor in mathematics. She is a member of the Student-Athlete National Honor Society. On the court, Lalic leads the UAB attack this season with a career-best 2.97 kills-per-set average.
Lalic has helped UAB to a record of 17-15 (9-7 C-USA) and the No. 7 seed in the Conference USA Championship. The Blazers will battle No. 2 seed Tulsa (24-6, 13-3 C-USA) Friday at 2 p.m. CT in the first round of the tournament.

Lalic was one of four seniors named to the team, selected by the C-USA volleyball sports information directors, joining five juniors, one sophomore and a redshirt freshman. The all-academic team consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a starter or key reserve on their team. This marks the fourth consecutive year UAB has placed a player on the C-USA All-Academic Team. Former Blazer and current UAB assistant coach Casey Dent earned the award three straight years from 2006-08.
