GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Senior Kaylor Timmons, playing in his first tournament in over a year, led UAB with a 26th-place finish at the 2009 SunTrust Gator Invitational. The Blazers finished in 14th overall and played the final two rounds without two-time All-American Zack Sucher due to an illness.
Timmons recorded his second even-par round of the event when he fired a 70 during Sunday's final 18 holes. As a result, Timmons' three-round total of a five-over par 215 (70-75-70) was the second-best 54-hole tally of his career. Additionally, his five-over par score resulted in his fourth-best finish during a three-round tournament.
Sophomore Jason Shufflebotham finished one stroke behind Timmons with a six-over par 216 (73-72-71) to finish tied for 36th overall. Junior Adam West closed the event tied for 62nd overall with a 221 (74-72-75), while redshirt freshman Blake Watts tied for 70th after carding a 17-over 227 (75-77-75).
Tournament host Florida outdistanced the field with a 15-under 824 to capture its sixth consecutive title in the event. Ole Miss was the next-closest competitor with a two-over par 842. Conference USA rival UCF finished third at 846, while Florida State (847) and Duke (848) rounded out the top five.
The Blazers return to the links next weekend when they travel to Ponte Vedra, Fla. to take part in the John Hayt Intercollegiate on Feb. 22-24.
