BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- At Sunday's 1 p.m. match against Southern Miss, the UAB volleyball team will be collecting aluminum can soda pop tabs for recycling, with the money raised going to benefit Birmingham's Ronald McDonald House.
The Blazers are partnering with the facility for the remainder of the season, but Sunday's match is an opportunity for fans to drop off what they have collected so far. Fans will be able to drop off their tabs at the entrance to Bartow Arena.
As previously announced, Sunday's match will also serve as the Blazers' Fall Festival, and fans will be admitted for free with the donation of a designated paper or plastic product for Ronald McDonald House. Click here for more information.
In addition to Sunday's collection, there are also designated pop tab drop-off sites set up all across campus. The collection containers are small, cardboard houses with a hole at the top for the pop tabs. Click here for a complete listing of on-campus collection locations.
It takes 1,280 pop tabs to equal one pound of metal. Seventy-five pounds of recycled pop tabs will house a family at Ronald McDonald House for one night, while 525 pounds will house a family for a week. To date, more than 400 million pop tabs have been collected nationwide, generating more than $4 million for participating houses.

Sunday's volleyball match with Southern Miss is the second home contest this weekend for UAB, which also hosts Tulane on Friday at 7 p.m.
