Blazers Wrap Up Competition at UAB Fall Beach Blast

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- The UAB women's golf team wrapped up action at the 2010 UAB Fall Beach Blast on Tuesday afternoon at the Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club. The Blazers finished in sixth place with a team score of 631, led by senior Carolyn Cochran, who finished tied for 11th place.
After shooting a 74 in the first round on Monday, Cochran finished the tournament with an 80 on the final 18 holes for a 36-hole total of 154. Senior Lindsay Taylor recorded the best second-round score for the Blazers, shooting a 74 and finishing the tournament with a score of 160, one stroke behind sophomore Ana Martin. Martin delivered UAB's second-best performance of the tournament with a score of 159 after shooting rounds of 80 and 79. Senior Jaime Brabb rounded out the Blazers' scoring with a total of 161.
Memphis took home the team title with a score of 592, led by medalist Marissa Steen. Steen recorded rounds of 73 and 70 to finish with a 143, one stroke ahead of second-place finisher Jennifer Gartin of West Florida. Louisiana-Monroe finished second as a team with a 36-hole total of 613, while Marshall rounded out the top three with a 617.
The Fall Beach Blast marked the final competition of the fall season for the Blazers. UAB returns to the links in February at the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational in Mobile, Ala.
