BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Sophomore volleyball player Sam Serley, who has posted double-digit kills in seven straight matches, is the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
Serley is coming off a strong weekend both offensively and defensively, averaging 4.00 kills and 1.86 blocks per set over the Blazers' conference matches against Tulane and Southern Miss.
For the season, the middle blocker ranks in the top 10 in Conference USA in attack percentage (.336, 6th), blocks per set (1.00, 8th) and points per set (3.85, 9th).
In the classroom, Serley owns a 3.7 GPA in UAB's health science (pre-med) program. The Nashville, Tenn., product was a Dean's List honoree and a member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll as a freshman in 2009. She is also a member of UAB's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Serley and the Blazer volleyball team (7-17, 4-8 C-USA) are back in action this weekend with a pair of road contests Friday at Houston and Saturday at Rice.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Sunday night on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:35 p.m. on ABC 33/40.
